You are probably used to French toast as a form of a sweet breakfast, right? Well, this dish is a little different in Serbian kitchen – it is salty.
Traditionally, French toast has addition of sugar, vanilla or cinnamon – Serbian dish called "prženice" doesn't.
It's basically the same thing – bread rolled in the milk and eggs and fried on the pan.
In bowl, whisk 2-3 eggs with a drop of milk and salt it for the taste. Slices of bread, put in the eggs and cook in deep hot oil. Remove when they become golden brown - it's that simple to make it.
They can be made from any king of bread - white, integral, corn bread, square or round bread...
Prženice are served usually with jam, cheese, prosciutto, sausage, with ajvar. Homemade jam is excellent with them also, regardless its saltiness – they match perfectly.
Prženice are a great breakfast, and now when you see them on the menu, you will know what you are ordering. And believe us, you won't regret it – they are so yummy!
